What a readability checker can tell you
A readability checker helps you spot writing that may take extra effort to follow. UltraHumanizer measures the text you provide: its length, sentence structure and estimated reading time. For a suitable English sample, it also estimates a Flesch–Kincaid grade level. These measures are useful starting points when you are editing a help article, an email, an essay or a report for a particular audience.
Start with the reader’s task. A product instruction should make the next action easy to find; a research discussion may need longer sentences to express qualifications. You do not need to remove every long word or bring every document to the same grade. Keep necessary terminology, explain unfamiliar ideas and shorten the parts that make the reader work without adding meaning.

| Report item | What it measures | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Estimated grade | Sentence length and estimated syllables in an English sample | Compare drafts for the same audience; do not treat it as a reading test. |
| Average sentence length | Text units divided by sentences | Look for several ideas crowded into a single sentence. |
| Reading time | A rough estimate at 220 words per minute | Plan the length of an update or article; actual reading speeds vary. |
| Long passages | Sentences over 25 words, with a stronger flag over 40 | Check each clause and keep a long sentence when it serves the thought. |
How the Flesch–Kincaid grade estimate works
The calculation uses average words per sentence and estimated syllables per word: 0.39 × words per sentence + 11.8 × syllables per word − 15.59. The displayed result is rounded to one decimal place and has a minimum of zero. Syllables are estimated from English spelling, so names, abbreviations and specialist vocabulary can be miscounted.
The grade appears for English-mode samples of at least 100 words when the text also passes a basic Latin-letter suitability check. That check is not language identification: use Other language for non-English writing, including languages that use the Latin alphabet. Counts and long-sentence review remain available. Bullet lists, headings and unusual punctuation can affect sentence boundaries, so inspect extracted document text before interpreting the result.
Improve readability while keeping the instruction intact
Put the action before background information, replace a vague phrase with a concrete one, and split a sentence when its two parts have different jobs. Then read the whole paragraph aloud. A revision should still sound connected and retain deadlines, conditions and responsibilities.

Use the report for the document you are writing
For a customer email, check that the reader can find the request, deadline and next step. For a blog post, review the introduction and explanation-heavy sections separately. For an academic draft, retain technical terms and citations while simplifying surrounding prose. For instructions, ask someone to follow the steps: a low reading-level estimate cannot reveal a missing step.
- Import a document or paste up to 100,000 characters; review the plain text extracted from the file.
- Start with the longest flagged passages and edit only the sections that would help your reader.
- Compare the original and revised versions for lost numbers, conditions and qualifications before publishing.

Questions about readability checker
What is a good readability score?
There is no single best grade for every document. Match the language to your audience and purpose. An instruction for a new user may need a simpler structure than an explanation for specialists. Treat the estimate as a way to find passages to review, not as a writing-quality target.
Why is there no reading-level score for my text?
The English grade estimate requires at least 100 words, English mode and a basic Latin-letter suitability check. Short samples still return counts, sentence length and reading time. The language check is limited, so select Other language for non-English text.
Is this the same as Flesch Reading Ease?
No. This tool estimates Flesch–Kincaid grade level, which is expressed as a US school-grade approximation. It does not display the separate Flesch Reading Ease score. Syllables are estimated, so the grade should be interpreted approximately.
Can I use it for text in another language?
Yes, for counts and sentence-length review. Select Other language to disable the English grade estimate. Word boundaries and reading speed differ between languages, so compare related drafts rather than treating the figures as universal measures.
Does checking readability upload my document?
The supported document reader and readability analysis run in your browser. The allowance request contains the tool identifier and a request fingerprint, not your source text. Choosing a separate online writing tool later involves a separate submission.
Does the checker fix long sentences for me?
No. It highlights passages and provides measurements; your draft is not rewritten. You can edit the text yourself or explicitly continue into Humanizer for a separate revision. Keep technical terms and necessary qualifications when simplifying a sentence.
